There are MANY, MANY THINGS that everyday, household items can be reused for, or recycled into, that can be useful to you...instead of just throwing them away.

Each week I will post a different household item to see how many uses we can come up with for each!!

This weeks' item: PLASTIC MILK JUG LIDS!!

...Reuse lids for checkers!! Paint red ones black, and you'll always have extra should any get lost!!

What other uses can you come up with for these??

I don't know what to do with the lids but every summer when we go huckleberry picking in the mountains I take a gallon jug, cut a hole in the top, attach it to a piece of rope, tie it around my waist and go pick berries. This works better than a traditional bucket because, being on the side of a mountain, you are very likely to fall and regular buckets are easier to dump out. It is never fun to fall in your pile of berries that you have spent the entire morning picking!

I'll have to think of the lids.

You could use them to hold little bits of paint or varnish for those delicate projects.

I have taken milk jug lids and saved them. I then wrote alphabet letters on them with a sharpie. (I also used OJ lids.) I started out saving just enough to spell my boys' names (when my little boys were learning to spell their names.) It ended up being a puzzle for them. I kept saving them so they could match up capital with lower case letters. They used them for what I made them for and then they made up their own imaginary games with them, stacked them, etc.

I send mine back to the company for the nickels for school program.
...and when I don't buy the expensive milk. we(girls and I) paint the caps white and make tiny cakes out of them. They are perfect Barbie size. we actually do this with all sorts of plastic lids sizes. Pop ones are good also. I will go look for a book I have and see if I can post the craft. Hey, you gals should know better than to think I came up on this on my own.

Thanks Melsb!

If I had girls, I would have to try the Barbie cake idea....
