...plants this week.

I have come to terms with the fact that Houseplants aren't a part of my simple living quest.

I don't know where they all came from, but somehow I have around 13 houseplants lurking on my porch and under the trees in my yard. I just don't need or want that many. Some are rather large and some are just ugly plants. I have decided to keep 4 or 5, but that's it.

I don't really like most of them and I have been known to have a brown thumb anyway. They rarely get watered and in the winter I have to lug them all inside my house and find spots for them. I spend the entire few months tripping over plants so they can all have a window seat.

I have started thinning the herd. Every week I dispose of one or two that I like the least. When the other plants ask about them I say that I have taken them to a large farm where they can roam free and be happy...but I think they are starting to catch on...

Spoodler,
I gave up on houseplants a long time ago. With three kids, four animals and a husband, I decided I didn't need another living thing to care for at this time. Seriously though, some advice I've received has been to make sure you're not over/under watering them and make sure you have the proper plant for your environment. DH & I had a beautiful, healthy, green houseplant that went into shock and died when we moved from our apartment to our house.

I've thinned out my houseplants over the years. I received a ton of them from my former jobs and from both of my IL's funerals. I'm down to a manageable three plants.

I don't have houseplants and, honestly, I'm glad. We breath better (no mildew). I'm not worried about spots and stains on my furniture and carpet. And my house looks far less cluttered. Every now and then I see a lovely plant in a store and think, "Ah, how nice." Then I remind myself that it isn't, at least, not for me.

I spent the weekend at my aunt's and she had beautiful, clean plants accenting her lovely rooms. Why don't mine look like that? I've gotten rid of all the dead/dying ones, but we're going to take the 5 i like with us when we move. Hopefully they will look better in our new house.

Just let me come around, and they'll all die! Heck, I can kill a cactus!

I have two plants - an aloe and a jade. They lived well at work where my cube-mate and I kept them alive between us. We'll see how long they last at home....

I wish I didn't kill houseplants. I can grow a mean OUTSIDE garden, but inside, well....

I have six - two small planters (full of succulents/cacti) that sit on the kitchen windowsill, an ivy plant on our back porch, some other viney plant that sits on top of our fridge, and two airplane/spider plants that are outside on our patio.... I am THE master of keeping cacti alive, which I know isn't saying much , but those two airplane plants will be going through some tough times this year. The other two are nearly impossible to kill (believe me, I have tried!). DH always remembers to water everything, but I don't know how he does it. I need something to bark/wag its tail/talk to me in order for me to remember to feed it!

That's the funniest thing I've read on MS in a long time

I used to kill lots of plants, but one day when I was cleaning out my mom's house after she died, I found some plant food and took it home, and VOILA!!! Those half dead plants started looking like lush vegetation in a rainforest. So try a little plant food...it'll do wonders. But still laughting over your plants at the farm

I am trying to murder it, but it's just not dying. I have an orchid for which I have not watered in the past one month( I used to water it weekly with warm water, soaked wood chips etc when it was in bloom - 1.5 years ago) - it looks wilted and pathetic, but the leaves are still green, so I don't want to throw it away.

I guess I should water it - poor thing is dependent on me!
