What have you found to be more financially lucritive: Haveing a garage sale or donating to a charity using "it's deductible" software for your write off?

I have never done well at a yard sale. It is probably all in the area. I don't mess with the deductions though, I just drop them off in a box. Or Freecycle.
I guess my answer didn't help much did it?
I keep telling myself I am going to start selling on ebay.

i don't do garage sales we live in the boonies. that said i donate several times a year and get tax reciepts then other times i just drop the stuff off. i figure why not just donate them to do a good thing. i shop at goodwill on occasion and i find name brand stuff for only a couple bucks so i give back the same way.. the only thing that bugs me is on mondays all the ebayers are in there getting all the namebrand stuff and someones kid in the community maybe really could use something nice at an affordable price.

I do garage sales. I never have enough deductions to itemize on our return. Whatever doesn't sell at the garage sale I take to donate, but I never worry about getting a tax receipt.

Our garage sales have nver done too well, we get a lot of people that steal thins, or who pretend not to speak english and try and pay $5 for $15 worth of stuff (and everything we priced is dirt cheap) and then take all the stuff without paying, so I think pretty much just going to keep donating itall for tax purposes from here on out. Less stress and work.

My last yard sale stunk! I think im just gonna start putting stuff on my front porch for puprle heart or for the other organization that comes once a month. As long as its not in my house!!! I feel like less stuff in my house will = more time for me (less i have to clean and deal with) And that's worth more to me than $10 profit from a time consuming yard sale! The only drawback is that I end up with bins and trash bags collecting stuff.

We've done both, but mostly donate and take the tax write-off. Using the computer program to figure the value has made it reeeeeeeeally easy to do that. I think yard sales are a pain in the neck.
