as a kid we always had a real tree, but now that i'm out of my parents house i just had to buy a fake tree. this way i know every year no matter what financial situation i'm in i'll have a christmas tree to come home too! don't get me wrong i miss the real thing, but not being able to have one at all would be a lot worse.

We have an artificial, prelit tree. I hate messing with lights and don't really care for the mess of a live tree. We had a live tree once when I was a little girl, and it took my mother weeks to sweep up all the needles from that tree.
PS- I have a brown thumb. I would kill a replantable tree.

My mom always did a real one from what I can remember. We do a fake tree. Too much mess, and I would be afraid of a fire hazard. I know there are precautions you can take, but I don't want to deal with it. And it does save money. This year we will have to buy a new tree because the 7 ft tree wont fit in our mobile home. We will probably go with a very small one. Like maybe 4 ft.

We chose an artificial tree last year since we have a wood stove and our house gets real dry during the winter months. I miss going & cutting down a real tree and that wonderful pine smell (that goodness for candles)!!

Real tree for us too, not only because of the wonderful smell and ambiance. When my son is older, we plan on cutting it down ourselves at a tree farm.
We know folks who are Christmas tree farmers and they depend on this time of year for most of their yearly income. I want to keep jobs for farmers in our area, it's tough.
I figure that as long as I am not removing a tree that is vital to it's ecosystem or houses little animals, I'm not doing too much environmental damage.

It depends on where we are living. Hot, dry climates=fake tree. Cool climates with tree farms=real tree.

This year it will be a real tree. We are in Washington and tree farms are all over the place. We love finding the perfect tree.
