They did have a psychiatrist/psychologist (not sure what his credentials were) on talking to her too. He had written a book about hoarders.

O My Lord, I had to stop watching. When they brought her in the warehouse where all that stuff was, I was shaking for her. Then when he told her 'quanity vs quality' and indicated her family, I just turned into a bubbling mess.

They sold everything in that warehouse for $13,000!!!!

She was definately an extreme case. She hit the nail on the head when she said she may have been trying to fill a void with "things"....she had lost some family members in recent years. I hope she can overcome it.

My Mom is like this. Like the above post, I think she's trying to fill a void after my brother and sister died. I don't bug her about it because it is her way of dealing. The show makes it look so simple, but their are a lot of emotions attached to the stuff. I know how stressed my Mom gets when I clean her fridge. I think emptying the house would send her over the edge. I'm much less judgmental of others because of my Mom. She's the most giving loving person I know and not just because she's my Mom.

WOW, all i can say is WOW!!! I only wonder what kind of jobs they have (or used to have since i assume they are retired now) that she could even afford to buy that much stuff?!!! She said she went shopping everyday, damn, i am lucky i have any money left after bills to even think of shopping for the fun of it!

The day my tivo messes up there is a good show on! UGH! I like organizing and I have a ton of projects to work on in my house. I keep saying that as soon as I am done with school I am going to do it. I hope I never get that bad!!

thats why they made it very clear you just can't go in and clean it up for someone they have to do it with help and face it and get some serious help...

just think the amount of money that woman has spent on all that stuff.. she had 3000 pairs of shoes and 3000 purses alone he said if you averaged that they each cost 10 bucks thats $60,000 right there.. it was just really sad but i'm so glad she got the help because the mold and toxins in that house could have killed them in the end.

I just watched the two episodes of Oprah. That house was so sad. It definitely inspired me to clean out some stuff!
