My husband and I have been debating this since we put up our yard display this weekend. According to this article christmas lights, air conditioner filter they had an average increase of power of $13.00 a month for homes that decorate with lights during the holiday season.

Truthfully $13.00 isn't too much for me to enjoy our lights and I doubt ours even cost that much. In our case we are turning on our lights in the morning when we wake up and run them until the sun comes up. We turn them off during the day and turn them back on when the sun goes down, currently about 5 p.m. and they run until we go to bed about 9 or 10.

When do you run your holiday lights?

We don't have lights on the house, but even if we did...I love them so much, it really wouldn't matter to me!

I start my Christmas lights (small light pine trees in urns and then window candle lights) the day after Thanksgiving and I run them thru about mid January.

We're about dark to 10 around here too. Hubby says stuff about how much they're going to cost, but I LOVE them! lol

Our tree is on most of the day when we are home. The outside lights are on from dark to 9pm. We live them on all night Christmas Eve & Christmas. It is cool to drive the girls around and have them flip out when they see the decorations.

This will be our first year with lights on the house. I was thinking from dark to about 10 or 11. Now, if I am home, the tree is on! I love the Christmas tree and I plug it in as soon as I get up and leave it on untill I go to bed!!
