I would start with www.ewg.org's cosmetic database. Look up your current stuff to see how bad it is and then search for a lower number offender.

For skin care and hair care, I've found frugal, non-chemical items I can use from my kitchen, amazingly enough. There are tons of websites you can research for ideas. It's all natural, and dual-purpose.

The best natural beauty product line is Arbonne. It is a little pricy but it is very good for your skin and the environment. Most beauty product are made from left overs from butchered animals but this is not - all natural and has no mineral oil in it which is also very bad for your skin and body. If you can find a consultant who sells it near you you can have a party and get $250 worth of free product! They have everything from shampoo to makeup to creams and lotions. I use it and I love it!

EWG's skindeep website is great for seeing what is in your cosmetics. I love EWG's website period.

BTW, if anyone orders online, I order stuff from Drugstore.com. They are a lot cheaper than what I can buy at my local health food store plus I sometimes get free shipping and no tax! We have a water softener in our home so a little shampoo and soap go a long way.

Another website I like is Cancer Awareness, Search for the Cause Campaign. Checkout their dirty dozen link!
