My dd is really liking her My Little Pony playset these days. It came with two ponies, and she and my ds play with them every day.

I was thinking I might buy them more ponies for Christmas, but... why? They have two, one for each, they love them, they play with them... do they need more? I was waffling, and then we were at a neighbor's house the other day, and they had a gazillion ponies. The little girl "used to collect" them, but now she is 7 and has moved on to the Little Pet Shop stuff.
But still they have about 15 ponies plus accessories floating around their house.

I could see myself getting into the pony thing more than my kids and buying all kinds of stuff
just because *I* think it looks fun. That was a good warning bell for me. I think I will let my kids enjoy the two ponies they have. Next year who knows what they will like?

it seems like I do that (and I know the grandparents do that!) once my girls announce that they "LOVE" something it seem like a week later we have the entire collection...I need to have a rummage sale and no one can bare to part with anything they "love"! I would like to scale back too...

Back in the 80's When My little pony was in - I LOVED all my ponies!! I was so Excited that the craze Began again a Few Years ago.

BUT my daughter wasen't too thrilled with the set I bought her.... so that ended that dream of mine

I don't Get my kids a Gazillion of any toy either.... I am a Major Declutter unless it is used , or loved! BUT I would rather focus on something that I know they love, rather than wasting my money on other things.

I vote for getting a Couple more ponies

4 - 6 is a good number- 20- 30 is not

My dd1 is 5. She has loved her ponies for about 2 1/2 years. She is the owner of about 25 ponies. I know this because I just went through them all! She got several for her birthday and Christmas for 2 years. Now she is on to barbie (but she doesn't have one-YET). My point is we have so many but they are still playing with them. KWIM?

I tend to let them get more of a collection of things!! they never seem to play with the others so Id rather keep more of what they are into than other things they are not!! plus when they are done then its easier to resell as a group rather than 1!! also when they have a few of something (not too many LOL) they set things up and they all seem to work together its fun to see this kind of play!! either way it depends if they would even play with more thn 1 at a time etc!

I think you hit the nail on the head. You don't want the entire collection.

It took me almost 4 years to learn that Quality vs Quantity with my girls toys. Luckily, I bought a lot at yard sales and didn't spend too much money. I weeded out a lot and try to rotate when they get tired of something.

My mom bought them a bag of naked barbies at the yard sale. Just because they are a dollar doesn't mean I want them to clutter the house. She was being nice but I secretly gave them to goodwill!

My SIL and I jumped on the CARS craze! We took our boys (with my DH & G-ma-IL) last year when it was in the theater! The boys LOVED the movie and still do! My SIL and I went crazy and got them ALL the cars! We were going to multiple Wal Marts in a day to try to get every last one! I finally realized that if I finished out the first full set that I'd probably want to move on and buy all the new ones they come out with this year, and then next year, etc! I stopped with 1 car to go in the first set! I actually had it, but returned it! Nitroaide?? Who even knows who that is?? He appears in the movie for about a nano-second! He's my little reminder that I got a little too into it! DS STILL loves the movie and still loves his cars, but he has WAY MORE than enough!

My SIL on the other hand has moved on to the 2nd batch! I'm pretty sure she has to have every last one! Oh, plus the extra set she buys to hang on the wall of her son's room....

This is a problem I have in my house. Between my husband and 4 year old daughter ... it is a work in progress. The only good thing I can say is we don't have TV and my daughter isn't aware of a lot of things outside of My Little Pony, dinosaurs and Elmo. But trust me those three are enough!

My mother in law gave my 2 year old son 30 matchbox cars for his birthday--because he likes cars and they were on clearance. And now I have cars in every nook and cranny of the house. He has 3 favorites that he carries around with him all day long (even to bed). I've noticed in the last month that every time he talks about something, I jump online to see if there is a toy or book I can buy him for Christmas related to what he is talking about.
