Some of us had questions a while back as to which companies used recycled materials in the production of their personal products. I found this table interesting, naming several name brand companies, and some that I'd never heard of. The following information was taken from the following website: Clear Cut Old Growth Forests for Facial Tissue and Toilet Paper? and lists the percentages of recycled materials used in each brand. (Published May 3, 2005.)

The 1st percentages listed = Total recycled content
The 2nd percentages listed = Percentage of PCC (post-consumer content)

?? = No information available.
N/A = Does not make.

Top Green Brands:

1. Seventh Generation

Unknown or Unverified - Claim to use recycled paper for their products, but did not respond with the percentages:

- Capri

- Decor
- Doucelle
- New Horizon
- North River
- Perkins
- Pert
- SofPac

May have recycled content, but could not verify:

- Ambiance

The beginning of this article talks about the cutting down of old-growth forest, and names the makers of the Kimberly-Clarke brand as the biggest waster of these resources. Here's what the article states:

There's more than one offender in the crime of laying waste to the planet's old growth forests for inappropriate purposes, but one (of) the biggest is Kimberly-Clark, the largest tissue-products company in the world, with sales in 150 countries. Some of the Kimberly-Clark brands of disposable paper products you're likely to see on supermarket shelves are Kleenex Facial Tissues, Scott Toilet Paper and Paper Towels, Cottonelle Toilet Paper, and Viva Paper Towels. The company also sells toilet paper and tissues to large institutions like universities, high schools, governments, and businesses. In North America, only about 1/5 of the pulp that Kimberly-Clark uses for its disposable tissue products comes from recycled sources, and most of that goes into the products that go to large institutions, not consumers.

Hmmm...Right now I use two, sometimes three, of the four products mentioned here.

Guess it's time to re-evaluate my product choices!!
