They featured this on an episode of Living With Ed, and I noticed they even have it at our Costco.

We have this in our back yard AND front yard (most HOA's don't allow it, but ours didn't stop us, surprisingly!) It's NOT cheap. (We spent about $15,000 -- GASP!!!!) We've had it for 2 years now.

We got a rebate/reimbursement check from our city for installing water-saving landscape. We live in Arizona, so now we have no lawn to water or mow. Have you ever read how much JUNK is emitted into our air just by mowing the lawn for 20 minutes? I can't rattle them off the top of my head, but it's shocking when you hear it!

Anyway, I was just wondering if this is something mostly in desert climates, or if it's becoming more widespread???

We've thought about putting it in the fenced in play area out back. I think i'll check out local Costco.

I've never heard of it, sounds interesting though. I'll have to check Costco.

I've never heard of it. Is there a website? Is this something done more in the warmer parts of the country?

Oh I am so glad to "know" someone that actually has this! I saw that episode of Living With Ed and have been intrigued. I thought it looked fantastic! I live in GA and we don't have any trouble with nice green grass here (other than the horrible drought we have been in this year - we have water restrictions and haven't been allowed to water for months now - but that is unusual). However, our back "yard" is all wooded and we have dozens of huge old trees that prevent us from growing any grass at all. Our lot is sloped and at the bottom we have a huge flat spot that would make a great play area. I was thinking that stuff might work down there. We adore our trees and aren't about to cut them down just to have a yard, but a little soft patch for the kids would sure be nice. Of course I have 2 boys and they think the woods are pretty cool.

I have a question though - if you do live somewhere that is usually a humid climate, what does moisture do to it? Does it make it get yucky when it gets rained on repeatedly?
