I found this interesting article by Patty Tokar. Alas, I am too cheap to hire one myself, but I can daydream, anyway. This gave me some good food for thought.

My dad use to laugh at my mom - in the days before I was born they had a housekeeper and she came twice a week to a clean house that my mother had sat up all the night before cleaning because she didn't want this other woman to see how dirty things could be!

It would be good to have one as Dusting I have trouble breathing when I do that!! so a housekeeper to do my dusting and vaccuming and washing of floors and bedding would be great!! but I like my privacy with clothes and where things belong so organizing now way!!

When I went back to work last year, I hired a housekeeper to come in once a week to do the bathrooms, floors, dust, etc. It's been a load off of my mind and worth every penny. I still cook and do laundry. I hired an individual instead of a service.

"Merry Maids" is chronicled in the book "Nickeled and Dimed" and they do not come off well. Besides, I'd prefer that my money goes directly to the person doing the work and not the middleman.

I would definitely like someone to come and clean my bathrooms and mop my floors!

My husband and I were talking last night. I don't need a maid (though I probably wouldn't pass one up if given the change ); I need someone to come into my home and declutter and organize me. And then once the house is completely set up, my husband needs a personal assitant that comes in behind him and picks up everything that HE leaves laying around! I swear, he is worse than my 4 year old!

Yep! This would be me!

We've had cleaning ladys before and it's just not in my personality. I really want things done "my" way. Having a cleaning lady is actually more work for me than not! LOL!

Yes, for sure. I have had 3 cleaning ladies in the past 3 years and have realized that I need one for atleast another 6 months. The biggest problem for me is the mopping of floors. The entire first floor of our home, about 1400sqft is hardwood - i really do not have the energy to sweep and then mop. With a 8 month DD who is becoming clingy, it's getting tough. I get cranky if I have a lousy house and DH prefers to shell out money than to have a bickering wife when he comes from work - and H(not DH) refuses to do any house work other than taking care of baby after he comes home. I like scrubbing the bathroon and kitchen, but the floors drive me mad.

And, yes I do clean up a bit before the cleaning lady comes - my mom also used to do that - guess that is genetic.

I guess if I spent less time at MS, I might be able to do it myself.

Well, I can't afford one. But lets just imagine that I can. I would probably like someone to come in here once, and help me organize. I am sure I would do some tidying before they got here. But like someone else here once said, they have seen it all. I would let someone do my laundry(not the skivies) if they could garuntee to do it better than me. I hate it when I miss a stain!

Ok, I read the article, and yeah it seems like a pain in the butt. If I were in a situation where I needed a little help(say, if I was pregnant or having lack of sleep due to a baby) I would hire a teenager that I knew good enough and just pay them.
