Anyone use loose tea? Tea bags seem so much easier and less hassle. Am I missing something by sticking with the bags?

The only thing you are missing is variety.

Yes you are certainly missing something by using tea bags!! They are much simpler but if you have time it's worth the extra effort for the significantly better flavor.

We have both in our house. Tea bags for single cups or hurried morning tea, and loose tea for lazy weekend mornings or cozy afternoons. We actually have a nice teapot (bodum) that has a strainer inside for the tea, and it does a great job.

I suggest you do a taste test. Get some darjeeling black tea and try making it in a strainer, then compare it to a tea bag of darjeeling. I guarantee that you'll notice the difference!

I honestly think it depends on which brand of tea you buy. For us we are a "Stash" family.. They sell both baged and loose teas, and taste so much better than some of the other brands you can find in the grocery store. In the pacific northwest you can find their tea in grocery stores.. elsewhere you might have to resort to the catalog.. but I would say it is worth it! When my mom comes to visit she always stocks up on a few boxes of her favorite teas.

Currently I buy the bagged teas (usually around 3.99 for a box of 18 bags, but can get on sale for as little as $1-2/box)... but I have asked for a nice teapot for Christmas along with some of my favorite teas in the loose varieties... maybe I will be lucky and get it!

I use the bags. For iced tea I boil water and sugar (lots and lots of sugar ) then add the tea bags, then add cold water. For hot tea I boil water then put in my teacup and add a small tea bag. I use the Celestial Seasonings and gets lots of different flavors. I love the apple cinnamon and strawberry. I got peppermint last Christmas because I love candy canes and pepperints, but the tea was awful!
