Anyone doing a major purge?

How do you fit the new toys in?

Anyone else doing the "one comes in, one (or two) goes out" motto?

C'mon ladies...spill...

DH and I have already did the "toy sorting" last week. We go through and get rid of anything that is broken, missing pieces or hasn't been played with for a long time. With four kids we have to make room somehow.

This is a great thread -- and it makes me realize that we've done nothing. I'm going to have to give this some thought!

Well, sort of. I try to purge all year long. My last purge was about a month ago, so I probably won't get to it again before Christmas. Luckily as my kids get older I'm finding that their toys are less bulky and easier to store. For example, my daughter wants Webkins and Nintendo DS, my son wants Legos and Thomas trains. Those baby/toddler things were SO big!

I was just thinking about that this morning. Although I requested NO toys for the kids from family. I know that they will get some and that is fine. What 5, 4, and 23 month old want just clothes and socks for Christmas?? Heck, we are getting them a few toys. I just didnt want them to get 50 more toys and than try to figure out where they go along with the other 100's of toys. About every six months, I go thru all the toys and start throwing out everything that is broken, missing pieces, etc. If it is a toy that they older ones are too big for and still in good shape, than I move it to my 23 month olds room. Last time I did a clean out, I filled three big black lawn size bags! I am going to add this to my list of jobs I have to get done before Christmas Eve.

Every couple of months I go through the toys and throw away broken toys. If there are toys that aren't used anymore or are too young for them and they are in good enough condition, I set them aside for the other babies in our family. My brother has a baby due in February and my trunk is full of goodies for him! I just think of all the noisy and obnoxious toys he got my boys and smile, because eventually, they'll all go back to him...hehe.

So anyway, the point is, I'm going to be doing another toy purge before Christmas. I have to do it during nap time or after they've gone to bed or we have a riot.

I agree with Kim, I'm glad to be out of the BIG toddler/baby toy phase.
I purge toys on a monthly basis. I did a larger purge for Christmas.
I sold a dollhouse on Craigslist yesterday that took up a lot of space. It was only listed for 1 day and I sold it! The girls have a wooden barbie/bratz house that is vertical and takes up less space.
My girls must be gentle with their things, we never have broken toys.

I haven't done anything yet, but I definitely plan on it. Probably next week when I have a few days off of work. Our house isn't big enough to keep adding new things without getting rid of items they don't play with.

We already did. This past week. We got rid of more than half the toys (YAY!) and we found better homes for them

I purged toys about three weeks ago. Still doesn't seem like enough is gone though...
