I am not sure I could do this, but the thought has crossed my mind. Kinda like a HUGE challange! Instead of a no buy month, a no buy year? It was on the today show a year ago? Not sure if I could do this. As I love to just walk around and shop even if I don't spend! I think they had some rules, like buying necessities? Underwear comes to mind and tampons! The rest pretty much would have to be bought second hand! Anyone ever do this?

Is this being simple or what?

I have heard of those women, I think I read about it in a magazine. I don't think I could do it for a whole year, maybe if I was single with out kids..? It would be such a challenge with a family! I have really cut back on impulse buys this year though.

It's called the "compact" and there are yahoo groups and blogs. It's one of those things, once you find it, you see it all over the place on the internet. I do it to a point and it's quite a fun challenge. I wish I was more successful at it (Target 75% off clearance calls my name!) but I have cut my excess spending by almost 80% since starting at the end of December. I belong to the yahoo group and it really helps me keep focused because I get daily emails from the members. The blog Consumption Rebellion is a mom who ended her year in September but it has changed her thinking so much that she has continued on a not so rigious non-spending lifestyle. I found that I have enough of everything not to even need to buy anything. Things like crafts for the kids, movies, books, clothes, etc. We could not buy something new for such a long time and I don't think the kids would even notice. We are expecting a baby in March and other than size 1 diapers, I need nothing! The compact has really affirmed this.
