This chapter goes into heavy detail about the three wardrobe design techniques:
mix and match, spectrum and monochromatic (see my post on Chap 5 for details of each type).
The suggestion of having eight as your base wardrobe number is made again, and the author gives several examples of how far eight pieces can stretch. Using four tops and four bottoms in the mix and match technique, she illustrates 32 different outfits. Thirty-two! That is kind of mind boggling, yet it's all right there on paper.
There is a form for you to fill out that helps you plan the exact wardrobe you need. There are a few stories of how people have made the system work for them. There is a section devoted to maintaining a beautiful wardrobe... lots of good tips in that, even about how to keep up with laundry.
By the end of this chapter, you really have all the information you need to purge your clothes and plan a new wardrobe that looks great on you. There is even a whole section on planning the frugal wardrobe. You can't go wrong here.
I'm still in the purging and planning stages. I know which of the items I have left really need to go, but I find that taking baby steps works better for me than hauling out bags and bags in a single afternoon. I've done some window shopping, but I'm not buying anything that doesn't look and feel great to me. I figure I'd rather take my time and love what I buy rather than fall into the same old shopping rut. Plus, the more I read and have time to think about it, the more I form an image of what I really need.
The next chapter covers a weak area for me: accessories. I've been using the same purse for five years! Now, I did shop for that purse for two years to find the exact one I wanted, and I'm not planning on giving it up, but it can't hurt to learn more, can it? Stay tuned...
