What is your best organizing tip for your home and for your kids? I could really use the advice and curious what other people do! List as many as you want. I'm going to write them all down and post them for my family.

Start getting ready an hour before we leave the house. It just makes things go smoother.
Put the dog outside when we're getting ready to leave the house. She just starts bouncing around, tripping me, the kids, slipping on the floor. She just adds to the drama.
Have the kitchen cleaned the night before. Starts out my day right.
Wipe down main bathroom everyday. Just a quick little scrub.

I'm not really sure if this is what you are looking for but here are some ways i stay organized.
In my closet all of our pants are together, shirts, skirts and dresses and then all of the same color group are together, like my red shirts and white shirts and black shirts are grouped together with the shirts etc...
I keep all of my washclothes for each bathroom in that bathroom in baskets, same for towels.
I keep all of the remotes for each tv and dv or vcr in the particular room in a color bucket that matches the room.

I like to lay out all of our clothes the night before, sometimes a few days ahead if I know I am going to be very busy.
I always vacuum the house at one time, all the rooms, that way I don't have to think "okay when did I last vacuum the kids rooms?" I just hit them all at once and put that vacuum up. I don't like it out in the room in view.
I have a dry erase board in my kitchen. I have my meals planned for the whole month. Sometimes I might make something that sounds good that is on the menu for the next week. Doesn't matter, if I borrow from another week, I know I still have 30 or so meals available at any given time.
I try to do laundry every day I can. I would rather keep it up then let it go. I also throw all the clean laundry on my bed and fold it while the boys are in the bathtub. I find that it saves time and I can watch them while I fold.
I try to wipe down my bathrooms with clorox wipes I keep under my sink every day or so. Saves on time.
I pick up as I go. If I am walking upstairs, I take stuff with me as I go. I try not to let my house get too messy or else it is just overwhelming.
I make my kids clean! I am NOT a maid and they know this. They are 5 and 4 and I taught them early on to pick up and keep their toys put up in their room.
Hope those help! Erin

My best organizing tip is to always put things down in a permanent home. Don't sit something at the door or counter or in a spare room to be put away later.

Every night I go through the house and straighten, everything back into its appropriate room, shoes put away, dishes in the washer, clothes in hampers, etc. Only takes a few min since I just did it the night before and then cleaning always takes less time. For example I acn just go in and vacuum a room and don't have to also pick up clothes off of floors, put away books etc.

Everyone is different, but what works for me is to not let things get cluttered up...I deal with mail, as soon as it comes in. I deal with school papers, as soon as they arrive. If I can't, I put them in a very specific spot.
The kids are very good about keeping their backpacks in one place and packing them up the night before.
I know for me, I keep things picked up as a I go along. Every day. That way, when I actually am cleaning, there is no 'decluttering' as I've already done that. Makes the actual cleaning go so much faster!

I have a large desk calendar hanging by magnets on the visible side of the refrigerator. It's our "Family Calendar", and my husband and I update it regularly . . . in pencil, so things are easy to erase. I have the pencil hanging next to it on a magnet, too. The whole family looks at it to see what's going on, or how-many-days-there-are-until some anticipated (or dreaded!) event. It makes it much easier to schedule things.
I also have a small white board on the fridge. Across the top, I wrote down the names of three stores we shop at. Under each, family members are supposed to write what we need from a particular store. Even though I'm the one who uses it the most, I'm trying to teach my dh and dd's that when they see we're down to the end of something (ex.: peanut butter, eggs, etc.) they should write it up there. Of course, the kids like to write "ice cream," or "jelly beans" and stuff like that.
