Even though my rent includes electric, I'm still a freak about wasting energy. So, I'll go around the house and turn off all lights, etc. because for me it's just become a habit. I also do not leave my coffee pot on, once it's done brewing. As soon as it's done, I put the coffee in my thermos for later, turn the pot off, and unplug it.

I remember someone posting a while back in this forum about how much electricity many of our appliances really use. Can't remember now how much the coffee pot was said to have used...But I think this habit of mine stems from watching my Dad do the same thing when I was younger. He ALWAYS used his thermos - every day!! And always unplugged the coffee pot when it wasn't in use. I also remember him telling me to NEVER leave your toaster plugged in. Someone he knew had their house burn down because of a toaster being left plugged in!! I guess that story has always stuck with me....never to leave things plugged in...and as an added bonus, it saves energy!!

I have a Senseo, so I make a cup when I want it. Usually 2 cups a day. I unplug all the appliances when not in use. It drives my husband crazy. It takes him 5 minutes after pushing down the toast to realize I've unplugged the toaster (like I always do).

I think I recall Oprah talking about unplugging stuff because of the energy it uses. I rarely get to watch her show, but made a point to watch a few minutes that day. I don't use a thermos, but brew my first cup of joe in my travel mug, drink it and then refill to bring to work. I am the only one in my dept. who brings a travel mug in, everyone else buys using a paper cup. Well, it could be worse. They could be using styrofoam. I am happy with my fair trade home brewed java that still costs at least half what bought does.

ps- I unplug the toaster, hairdryer, etc.

My dad always told me to unplug my appliances because of fire hazard. I don't even think twice about it and compared to our neihbors we always have a really low electricity bill...

I don't drink coffee, but I do unplug most everything I can each day.

I use a thermos to take water for DD when we go out or in the nights it's beside her bed. Since it is really cold, I prefer to give her some warm formula.

BTW, I must start unplugging my appliances.
