I stayed out at my mother's last night and she showed me my great-grandmother's thimble. My great-grandmother only owned one thimble during her entire lifetime. And she was a quilter! So it was well used. In fact this thing was so well used that she had worn the thimble down. It was so thin in some places that if felt almost like paper!

It just made me think about some of thing things that I own and how many of them would last throughout my lifetime.

sad but true....we are definitely a horribly wasteful society......it's awful.
But, super cool about your grandma's thimble, that's amazing!

Things like the thimble are so cool. It has so much more meaning than a collectible item that sat on her shelf. It was something she used to make things and had value.

My fondest memories are of my grandmother and I in the kitchen or garden. When my grandmother passed, I was allowed to pick a few items out that I'd like to keep. I was able to find my apron that I wore as a child, a set of cups & saucers and a stainless steel hand mixer (not electric). I think that hand mixer will out live me.

I'm guilty of being wasteful about clothing but I hold onto my kitchen items like treasures.

My husband always tells me to get quality items for my kitchen because they are my tools. He buys quality tools for his garage.
