Glad everyone seemed to have fun with yesterday's task!
Today's topic is "Practice Living without it!"
Task: dejunk one drawer. Do it by using the three steps of sorting, recycling and dealing with ambivalence that are outlined below.
Step 1: Sort your things into three piles:
1 - the love and use pile - you love and use this stuff
2 - the recycle pile - you are eager to toss out this stuff
3 - the ambivalence pile - these are things you both like and don't like, you don't know whether you should keep these items or not
Step 2: Create an ambivalence center - store your ambivalent items out of sight - in a spare room, garage, back of a closet. Then, practice living without these items. These items are now in a transition zone. We'll come back to this center later in the month.
Step 3: Remove the recycle pile - put it in the trunk of your car and take to a thrift shop or Goodwill as soon as possible.
Step 4: Design simple systems - you should have one pile left, the love and use pile. Put these things away neatly. Or, if it makes sense, design a simple system for these items (we'll talk more about why setting up systems is so important on Day 15).
I've got two junk drawers in my office that are out of control, so I know what I'm attacking today!
Have fun and report back.
