Happy Friday! I'm going to take a break for the weekend and post Day 6 on Monday. That will give everyone a chance to catch up over the weekend if needed! Plus, today is a big one!
Organize your closet
Task: First, sort your clothes into the three piles - recycle, ambivalent and the love and wear it pile. Second, put the recylce pile in your car to take to Goodwill or a thrift store. I like the way the book states it "when you give up a garment that no longer feels good to wear, you let go of something that no longer enhances your life." Third, place the clothes in the ambivalent pile onto wire hangers and put them in the back of your closet or better yet in another closet. Practice living without them. Fourth, buy a set of wonderful hangers to hold the love it and wear it clothes (or if you have nice hangers, use the ones you have - I'm never a proponent of spending money unecessarily!).
The book states that this task may take more than one hour.
A few other wardrobe/ closet tips from the book:
1. Arrange your clothing inventively
- by color
- by type
- by function
2. Get your shoes off the floor
3. Confront your socks life - ponder each pair, then edit, edit, edit.
4. Use hooks for hats, belts, scarves, purses, jewelry, etc.
5. Hang a drawstring bag for dry cleaning - what a great idea - much better than my pile on the bottom of the closet floor!!!
6. Use less laundry detergent
7. Create a clothing repair center - better yet do the repair the instant you notice it.
8. Keep a clothing recylce bag in your closet.
I'm going to spend the weekend doing this one - I just received the book recommended a few weeks ago - "It's so you" by Mary Sheenan Warren, so I'm going to use that as my guideline for going through and paring down my closet. Have fun with this one - we talk about clothing again on Monday, so don't be ready to leave your closets just yet!
Report back when you are finished with your successes!
