This is pretty cool. I'm looking at something along this lines to store my canned and dry goods a differently than what we currently have in our basement.

I take it that your basement is finished, thus it is warmer than the standard below-grade temperature of under 50 degrees.

I'm not looking at a frig for the basement. No, no, no. I ... I can't explain what I'm exactly looking for but ran across this and thought it was kind cool and it gave me ideas for what I want.

My confusion is usually an unheated basement is an ideal location for storing canned foods and long-term supplies. It is under 50 degrees F year round, doesn't freeze and light is severely limited.

If you have a finished basement, then an insulated box like this would be great if it is built up against the foundation wall. You probably wouldn't even need the fans.
