I HATE the green plastic grass that comes with 2/3's of the Easter baskets, store bought or home made, and here is a thought I had attempting to reduce some of this useless plastic.

Take green paper and run it through your paper shredder! Instant grass!

Any other ideas!

I don't use any type of "grass" in the baskets, never have. I just put the items in the basket with no padding.

I also hate the plastic grass. My MIL rarely gets anything for my kids but she manages to bring some of that hideous grass and a ton of candy for Easter.

Instead of the grass, I usually buy a shirt, PJ's or something useful with an Easter print and put in the bottom of the basket. I also get a decorative basket that can be used later for things like crayons, cottonballs, etc.

I was also going to suggest using a t-shirt or clothing at the bottom of the basket (that is what I usually do!)- or you can crinkle up old paper and then maybe as a project you can make recycled paper with the kids.

One green thing that I always do is plant the flowers I get for Easter and for the most part the flowers you recieve at Easter (of course not cut ones!) usually come back year after year (unless you have really pesky rodents- or a bad dog!). I love Hyacinths and every year that is what I get from my mom. If you go to Lowes or any place like that- if they are selling something that is "dying" pick that up and plant it- the next year you will have some beautiful flowers in the spring (unless you plant Easter Lillies- they will come up in the summer!).

I went to Joann's and found bags of shredded colored crinkly paper. I got a bag and figured it can be recycled when done.

We just use some hay. Smells better and looks the most natural!
