Family of 5 with two dogs and we live in a 1150 not counting the finished basement. The basement adds about 700 more sq ft but the kids won't play down there yet. They are to young and to afraid. Soon I hope, I am feeling cramped right now.

We are a family of 5 and live in a 1200-1300 sq. foot home (3 bedrooms, 2 bath). It does seem too small at times especially since we have two preteens. But, it's not too bad most of the time. I would like to separate the older girls, but I don't know if moving (would not remodel this house) will be feasible in a few years.

We have 3200 sq ft. and we are a family of 3. You can see it on my Avatar, that is our house. It looks bigger though because dh built a huge deck on the back of the house. I don't really know what a 'normal' size house would be? In the past in the UK our house would be considered a 'cottage' so everything is relative.

I won't lie though, it is not easy to clean!! Fortunately here I do the maintenance and we all pull together once in awhile and have cleaning marathons where we all help out. Since we got a great deal on our house, about 30K less than everyone else on the street for a nicer house, when we go to sell we are going to make out very well. We put so much money down on it that when we go to sell and downsize we can buy cash with it.

We are a family of 3 and our apartment is approx 1100 square feet. The space it utilized very well. I actually think it is fine for us for now-it would be better if we had a garage for storage. Our current storage is my mom's attic 100 miles away!

We had a house before we moved here. It was 1570 square feet and I thought that was too small. Now I know that it wasn't. I really don't want a huge house, one the size of our old one would be great. Keeping it up was very easy, even with myself working. I really miss owning my own home......

We are a family of 4 and our house is about 2000 sq feet. Three bedrooms 2 baths with an extra dining and family room. I don't really want bigger, I just want less stuff in this one.

We're in 3996 square feet for a family of 4. We'd like 2 more children, though. Hopefully that will happen soon!

I know it's a large home, but I think in Texas most homes are larger square footage than other parts of the country on average.

We own a two-story, 2,000 sq. foot colonial. Currently, we have 4 bdrms, 2.5 baths, EI Kitchen, Formal Dining Room, Study, Family room. Literally, as I type, we are under construction to add a 20x18 great room off the back of the house where the kitchen will open to. When all is done, it'll be about 2,400 sq. feet with the extra space we desired. We're staying until the kids are long gone.

More power to you ladies with the 3,000 sq foot plus homes. I don't know how you keep up with the cleaning! Unless, of course, you have a cleaning person to help.

Our house is between 950 and 1000 square feet. It is just my husband and I, and our Lab and G. Retriever. We have 2 good sized bedrooms, a nice roomy bathroom, a medium sized kitchen & living room, and a back porch/dog room/mud room/laundry room. The thing that makes it so small is the complete lack of a dining room - there is a short, 7-8 foot wide hallway between our kitchen and living room that will fit a small cafe table and two chairs. That's the only thing I mind, though. We completely gutted the place (after buying it for $7,000) and made the most we could out of what we had. There was just nothing that could have been done with the "dining area." I love our home though. We have a very nice sized yard, and a back deck, and patio that add to the living space during the summer. We plan on staying in this home for quite a while. It's paid off, it's cozy, the utilities are cheap, EASY TO CLEAN!, and the neighborhood is pretty nice for our town. It could get crowded in here if we have more than one child, so we plan on staying here at least until that happens (unless another cheap-o project house comes along!!! ).

That's the same with us but we're a family of 4 with no pets (allergies). I can't imagine having to clean twice as much house. I can hardly keep on top of this one.

What a deal! What did you spend to remodel? How long did it take?
