I struggled trying to decide where to put this thread and I'm still not sure this was the best place.

Anyway, how many miles are on your car and how long do you hope to drive it?

On our Honda Accord it has 245,000 miles. But it's still going! So I guess I cannot complain.

Our Subaru has 150,000 miles. It actually is the car that makes me nervous as it is the one we've had the most problems with. But we'll see. I'd like it to make it to 200,000.

We're firm believers in driving our cars until they die!

I agree with driving a car until it "dies" . . . when maintenance costs start to rise. My car is 5 years old and has 90,000. Dh's car is about 7 years old and has over 200,000 miles on it (he commutes). Both Toyotas. No problems with either. We just have regular maintenance done and replace the tires as needed. As my dad taught me, "If it's not broken, don't fix it!". Cars depreciate as you're driving them off the sales lot. I'd rather put money into an appreciating asset, like our house.

Funny you started your post that way. When I saw the title I thought "What the heck is that doing in simple living?" But oh well.

My 1998 Mercury Village van has 115,000 miles on it. We've been talking about using some of our inheritance money to buy me a new vehicle, since we know that the next 8 years or so we'll have a child in college so it's now or never!!!
