Sadly my bestfriend fell into the Clorox green trap. I mentioned making your own cleaners and detergents and she said she would but never again asked for the recipes.

I don't believe in this and I think it's simply sad. I wish people would realize that it's easy to mix your own ingred. they are safe and they can be stored in the same spot the commercial cleaners were and just label it. My dh doesn't mind using homemade products. He helps promote them.

I will be teaching a Simple Living/Frugal Living class at my Church coming up soon on Wednesday evenings for a few nights. I'm going to be including several recipes for homemade cleaners and handing out samples of cleaners, detergents ect for them to take home and try before buying the ingred.

The clorox green works are not completely natural, there are two ingredients, dye is one of them that make them only 99% natural. For someone who doesn't want to make their own cleaners but would like a less expensive option than some of the other green cleaners, this is a great product. For me, it doesn't do anything my vinegar can't do, as far as the toilet cleaner, I haven't tried any others and won't because vinegar is perfect for me.

Well, I just noticed this thread and I think I will jump in. What the heck is SAD about buying Clorox greenworks? I buy it, I use it, I like it. I recycle the bottles when I am done. Maybe I could do better, but at least I am doing that! I also buy Method products (so glad to hear a few of you have tried the furniture and floor polish - mine just ran out and I almost bought the Method the other day but hadn't heard anything about it - I will pick some up next time I am at Target). I love the cucumber dish soap and counter spray. Dh and I really like the house to smell nice. Maybe vinegar cleans just as well but it sure does stink. I do like to use the vinegar in my laundry when I am washing towels, thanks to 2bearsmom who told me to do that when I left them in the washing machine too long one day and they smelled awful. Now I add a splash every time I do a load of laundry and it works great. I have stopped buying bounce since someone said the vinegar helps the clothes feel softer too. I got rid of all the plastic in my kitchen this year. I drink my water right out of the tap instead of out of bottles. I still use the grocery store's bags but I take them back each time I shop and put them in the box to be recycled. I have started recycling all the boxes and cardboard that come out of my kitchen even though my city doesn't pick those up (they do pick up cans, glass, plastic, and newspaper) and I have to take them somewhere and drop them off. I buy a ton of organic food even though it makes my grocery bill about $200 higher each month. I have stopped buying soap and cosmetics with nasty chemicals in them. I dropped my newspaper subscription and started reading the paper online every morning. Etc., etc., etc...

I am not looking for a pat on the back, here, I am just trying to point out that everyone has a different comfort level. I am trying to learn and do what I can, but if I still like to spray my glass top table with something from a bottle, don't tell me that is SAD. You catch more flies with honey, so if you are planning to teach a class on this topic you may want to keep that in mind. Okay, off my soap box now....
