ok so dh and i are at a store yesterday and we see on an endcap colrox new "green" cleaners.. my question is why would someone buy these why wouldn't you just make your own??? my next question is do you think companies are trying to cash in on the "green" movement persay????

i say yes they are becuase anyone with half a brain could see that you can make something green for very cheap to clean your home!! its one thing if you simply refuse to make cleaners and want to buy something maybe this is a better choice but if you really want to be green wouldn't you just make up some at home???

Of course, it is advertising and PR. It works too. Some people don't want or have to focus on saving. Convenience, brand loyalty and there is the market. Choices are great! I will make the ones best for me. Homemade all the way.

Voluntary Actions Rock!

I've been thinking about these products...I mean, Clorox isn't exactly a "green" company. They are a bleach co. for crying out loud. Its a step in the right direction though, I suppose.

Mostly I use vinegar/baking soda for cleaning, but for those of you who go homemade, what do you use for toilet bowls?

I like these products. The smell of vinager sets off my DH asthma. So when he is home I use this. They have no bleach and they passed my plant test. I take a unwanted plant, like a weed, spray the cleaner on it and if it does not die then it will not harm DH's one lung.

I use straight vinegar for the toilet. Dollop some into the water from the gallon jug and let it sit a bit. Then scrub with a brush. The rest of the bowl, seat, tank, handle, base and floor get sprayed with vinegar and brushed well then wiped with a damp rag.

As I understand it, many household germs are not really killed by all the cleaners, but by being dislodged in the process. I think the brush is crucial if we are using less toxic products.

I pour straight vinegar into the bowl and let it set. Probably about 1/2 cup. And then I spray my soap / water combo on the outside of the toilet and seat and wipe that dry. Let it dry and then spray a quick mist of vinegar over the outside of the toilet and let it dry.

For the sake of getting DH to help clean, I do buy a few of the products. He just doesn't get the "mix this with that and find a spray bottle" routine. Even if I have it made up, he'd still rather grab a bottle he recognizes. So we have some Method products in the broom closet. I, personally, use the homemade stuff when I clean.

Not everyone wants to make their own cleaning products. I contemplated making my own, and opted not too. I can buy a bottle of Green Works for $2.50, it will last me months and it is convenient. It is comments like this that make people turn from trying to become green. You should be thanking Clorox, they will get people that would never have considered "going green" at least using better products.

Oh, and no I don't think Clorox is trying to "go green". I think they are just trying to do their part, the same as alot of other companies. If everyone just does one small thing, it will make a difference.
