Help! I want to start using Lunapads (I am willing to hear about other reusable products - but haven't talked myself into the "diva cup" yet), but want to hear from women that use them! Of course, all the testimonials on the website were great, but I'm hoping for other. . .hopefully. . . honest opinions. Good, bad or ugly I want all the details. . . ease of use, comfort, cleaning, etc. Thanks for the help!

You want to hear from women who use the Lunapads or the Diva Cup? I use both so I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. (I'll check back in the morning).

I wouldn't mind hearing about both. I'll be on and off throughout the day, so if I have more questions I'll get back to you after reading your opinion.

I just posted in a similar thread so I'll copy and paste what I wrote there. But I'm happy to answer any other questions you (or anyone else) has.

Re: the Lunapads

I have used two products. One is called Wemoon from Australia. Wemoon Natural Menstrual Pads These are great because they are leakproof. They are also really thin so I hardly notice them. I wear these on light days or as a back up for the diva cup but I don't wear them to bed because I like a thicker pad for while I sleep. Because wemoon are very thin, I 'feel' the wetness faster. Again this is why it's a great back-up (I've never had the Diva leak but it gives me peace of mind). However when I don't wear the Diva or at night or on a heavy day when I just might leak I wear the Lunapads. They are much thicker and feel a bit bulky but they are really soft and comfortable. I also like that Lunapads have a liner so I wear the same pad all day and change the liner. With wemoon, I have to change the whole pad. (I still really like the women though because they are so thin.) If you generally wear an ultra thin pad, Wemoon is probably best. If you generally like a thicker pad, Lunapads are better.

What I like about washables:
They don't smell (our cycles don't smell, hot plastic, flow and bleach is what makes the smell)
They wash beautifully.
They don't crinkle when you walk.
They are softer and more comfortable.
An upfront cost but way less money in the long run.
No waste.
No bleach products on your sensitive privates.
I buy enough for three days and wash them every other day.
They are great for camping. Pack in, pack out. (I use a diaper holder that came with our old diaper bag for storing clean ones in one and dirty in the other).

What can be tricky.
Camping is one thing, hoteling is another. I do pack disposables when I'm on a longer vacation where there is no laundry and it's easier to toss then to pack out the cloth.
At work. I work from home 90% of the time but on the days I commute to the office, I generally switch to disposables during the day. Washing the diva cup out at home with a sink right next to the toilet is easy. In a bathroom stall at work, not so much.

Let me know any other questions you might have. I'd be happy to answer any.

Okay, I do have a couple of questions. Do you have to sterilize the diva cup or just empty it out and rinse it? What do you store it in? Is it comfortable, how long does it last? For the lunapads, what do you soak them in? I've read some people just use cold water, others add vinegar, baking soda, or hydrogen peroxide?

I just use soap and water to wash out the diva cup each time. It comes in a little cloth pouch that I store it in. At the end of my cycle, I wash it out well with antibacterial soap and water and then put it in the little cloth bag with some baby powder to keep it dry and fresh for the next time.

They are suppose to last 10 yrs + Mine is going on 8 years and is still going strong. I haven't heard of one every wearing out. I think sometimes they get lost, left places or possibly accidentally flushed.

The Diva cups are just as comfortable as a tampon, except without that dry feeling a tampon can give. I never notice once it's in although it did take a whole cycle to figure out how to put it in properly. There are clear instructions that come with it. Once I read them very carefully and slowly, I figured out where I was going wrong. It really helps to relax those muscles.

Most people just soak the lunapads in cold water. I just put them in my plastic zipped bag (the one that came with our diaper bag for used diapers), then at the end of the day I empty the bag into the washing machine (with the bag too) and wash the whole thing in cold. Cold works best to remove the stains. I use just a tiny bit of fabric softner to keep them soft but not enough that it would be irritating on those sensitive parts.

I have been using cloth pads for about 3 months now. I really like newmoonpads.com for overnights and heavy days. I like to use ones with wings that I got from ebay (5 for $25) for daytime and light days. I think I spent just under $300 for all my pads and they should last me for about 10 years.

I just fill my bathroom sink half way with cold water and then add the dirty ones in throughout the day. Then I rinse and squeeze them out at night and throw them in the wash. Thankfully DH is not grossed out by it and was totally all for me going more natural instead of using tampons.
