What do you do with clothing that is too worn or stained to donate? I hate to just throw it all away.

  • rags
  • cleaning smock
  • yardwork clothes
  • cut squares to make patchwork quilt

That's all I can think of right now, lol.

You can use it for rags but check with your local thrift shop. Mine bags up stained clothing that is still in good condition otherwise and donates it to really poor people.

I often used worn or stained tshirts, socks (things that are all cotton) for rags. Other things, to tell you the truth, I throw out. The places I donate clothing to, just don't take things that are overly worn or stained.

old tshirts make the best rags!

My husband goes through pants like no other! I made an apron once out of an old pair of khakis. Very sturdy and washable. you could also make a braided rug maybe?

Rags or painting/crafting/yardwork clothes. That's about all I can think of.

I like the cotton socks for dusting. You know, the sport ones that are terry on the inside. Inside out and over the hands like mitts.

Cotton can be composted.

I made a braided rug. It takes a lot of rags but it was really fun. I didn't overly plan it. Just used whatever I had.

How about a freebie box at the next yardsale? You never know what someone else needs or wants.

I just read an article about this a couple weeks ago. Places like Goodwill, sort the clothes and resell anything that is in good quality, everything else is sent to a "recycler" that has rag sorters that take all the stained or worn clothes and make them into rags and the rest is shredded and recycled into other things, like paper, insulation and other stuff.

So ladies(and men) don't throw those "unusable" items in the trash to fill the landfills, give them to the goodwill, salvation army, etc.
