has anyone read this? With soy being in everything, I am wondering just how good it is for you and alot of it is GM too.
author: Kaayla T. Daniel, PhD, CCN
A groundbreaking expose that tells the truth about soy that scientists know but that the soy industry has tried to suppress. Soy is not a health food, does not prevent disease and has not even been proven safe. Epidemiological, clinical and laboratory studies link soy to malnutrition, digestive problems, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders, even heart disease and cancer

I'll have to check it out. I haven't had any problems with soy but one of the boys I worked with was deathly allergic to it and my mother has a health nut friend who thinks it is one of the most evil things in this world!

I read something about it a long time ago (8-10 years ago) about it not being good. We eat very little soy in our house, once in a while edamame, but no tofu, soy milk, yogurts, etc. And I try to limit processed foods with it.
It also has hormones or it synthesizes hormones that can cause early puberty in girls, so that is another reason we don't buy much.

I've read this book. Its quite eye opening! I avoid soy like the plague unless its fermented (like soy sauce. Although its very difficult to avoid completely as others have said. Its in everything). Its terrible for growing boys as well as girls (an endocrine disruptor...linked with early puberty, aggression, etc).

I have also found soy is not the health food everyone would believe. Here is a good article to read:
SOY- The Abominable Bean
Like previous posters mentioned, it is hard to avoid, as it is in a lot of things, but we avoid it when we can...

Really the only way to control exactly what's in your food is to make everything from scratch or be extremely vigil in reading food labels. The only problem with reading food labels is that not everything is always listed or they make up some alternative name for it.

My doctor has told me that soy is bad/avoid. My sister has also become allergic to it, so I avoid it for that as well.

Interesting article ... I guess anytime you hear all the benefits of one item you should start to question it.

Personally, I am not sure we know anymore what is really bad for us. One day everything is good and the next its bad. I still use soy as it is the only thing my son is not allergic to and it has decreased his hyperactivity. In about ten years, they well say that they were wrong and it is really good for you.

I use soy sparingly as in tofu. Ds actually likes it but I need to limit it just for this reason. Not saying that this caused it, but a lot of soy has been linked to brain cancer. My mom died of it, and she drank and ate a Lot of soy products.
