FDA comments on HFCS spark industry opposition

High Fructose Corn Syrup - FDA on Natural Foods - thedailygreen.com

The FDA is having some struggles deciding if HFCS she be allowed to be used in "natural" foods. The second article is a little more user friendly but the first article is what actually describes the statements made by the Corn industary and the Sugar Associationi -- the frightening thing is neither statement actually mentions what, overall, is in the best interest of the human body that is consuming this product! Right now it is more of an arguement of actual wording.

But at least the FDA is actually looking into the matter. Thumbs up to a government program that so few of us even trust!

It won't make me start trusting them. I like making my own choices based on my own risk assessment. Removing personal responsibility is very harmful.

Whenever I can, I will pass on HFCS, natural or not.

I've been reading too many credible sources that say HFCS is not good, that I'm trying to avoid it. I, too don't trust the FDA results. But so hard to avoid it - it's everywhere! I never imagined the box of Crispy Rice I bought yesterday would have HFCS as an ingredient!

DH and I were discussing last night how corn prices have skyrocketed - with so much now being diverted to fuel. So maybe, with the price of corn going up, HFCS won't be so cheap anymore, and more companies would go back to using plain old sugar.

I avoid this all together. Not good for you or your body. Interesting spin on this.
