Default How do you "store" your recyclables?

Right now at my house recycling is touch and go. We only have pick up every 2 weeks and there is no drop off center in town. I am pretty sure I could use a large tote that I already have for paper, but am looking for ideas for plastic. We would have milk jugs and pop/gatorade bottles. What do you do with your recyclables until pick up/drop off day?

We have curbside pickup every week for our recycling, which is great. I have plastic bin for recyclables (sp? LOL) from our hauling company. I keep it just inside the garage door off my kitchen and toss things from the kitchen into the bin.

At our old house, they also had curbside collection but no bin. So I just put recyclables in plastic grocery bags and tossed them into an empty trashcan in the garage until pickup day.

We are 10 minutes from the landfill. My husband takes our garbage and recycling every week. I have a comingled recycling can next to the regular trash can. It is cute, my 5yo is the recycling police. She will get after someone if they put a recycling item in the trash.

We do not have curb side recycling. Still working out my system but old magazines go into a paper shopping bag. Bottles have a seperate can. Compost pile scarps go into a decorative (and plastic) container that sets next to the kitchen sink. I just added this container last week and we'll have to see if this is where I'll keep it.

We have a plastic bin provided by our waste hauler & they pick it up every week. So we just toss everything into the bin in the garage. Newspaper, plastic, metal, cardboard, batteries - all go into the same bin.

I have so many different bins! I have one bin for the deposits, one for regular recyclables and then I put paper into a paper bag on top of the bin or recyclables. I use a large trash can and it's in my kitchen. If it gets full, I take it down to the garage where the bin to go outside is.

I think it's a matter of getting used to having extra bins around.

Our garbage pick up company provides three "cans" for weekly pick up: Garbage (the smallest can), and two larger cans, one for Recycling and one for Green Waste.

Years ago, I bought a Rubbermaid garbage can with a swing lid for under the kitchen counter overhang. I line it with a 13 gallon plastic bag and toss all recyclables in there. We're not required to separate glass, plastic, or paper. I keep a "mini-compost" container under my kitchen sink. That gets dumped outside into the Green Waste can every day.

I believe the Garbage company sells the composted green waste that they haul away.
