keep the top of the pineapple and grow your own tree, what an experiment that will be!

They should start to be "cheaper" now so give it a go!

In the name of accuracy, pineapple DOES NOT grow on a tree! I thought so too so I was rather surprised when I first went to Hawaii!

We may give it a try too. Thanks for the link!

Our friends came home from Home Depot a couple of months ago with a pineapple plant. We were pretty shocked ~ I've never seen one here (in SoCal) before. It already had a fruit. They paid about $20 for it...

They have brown thumbs. I'll have to ask them how the plant is doing.

Last year my family and I went to visit family in Florida. A friend of the family had a pineapple plant that was ready to harvest. There was 2 big pineapples on the plant and they offered to give me one of them. I accepted and brought it back home with me. That was the most delicious pineapple I have ever tasted. They cut the top off the pineapple and plant it in soil. It takes roots and grows. I plan to try it this summer to see if I can grow them.

I've tried this before! It never bore any fruit though. Maybe its time to give this a shot again.

bananabellasmom - if this works you'll have 2 pineapples!

My daughter will love this -- we're in. Now I just have to find the pineapple!

Thanks!

LOL mel!

I am a bit worried about cutting the top off correctly though.... I am not a fan of rotting anything!
