For those of you who have never heard of her, you may find great motivation from a woman by the name of Tasha Tudor. She's 92 years old and lives as though she's back in the 1800s.

I came across this amazing woman a couple years ago, while searching the internet for country Christmas books. I've been hooked ever since! She's been an illustrator for most of her life (her work is always centered on children, country life, animals and is adorable!) and she's a "jack of all trades" cooking by an open hearth, making her own clothes, etc.

There are several books out about her life that are usually at the library. But be careful, learning about her can be addicting!! You can check out her website tashatudor.com to learn more. Here's a piece from that site:

Her home, though only 30 years old, feels as though it was built in the 1830's, her favorite time period. Seth Tudor, one of Tasha's four children, built her home using hand tools when Tasha moved to Vermont in the 1970's. Tasha Tudor lives among period antiques, using them in her daily life. She is quite adept at 'Heirloom Crafts', though she detests the term, including candle dipping, weaving, soap making, doll making and knitting. She lived without running water until her youngest child was five years old.

From a young age Tasha Tudor has been interested in the home arts. She excels in cooking, canning, cheese-making, ice cream making and many other home skills. As anyone who has eaten at Tasha Tudor's would know, her cooking skills are unsurpassed. She collects eggs from her chickens in the evenings, cooks only with fresh goats milk, and uses only fresh or dried herbs from her garden. Tasha Tudor is renowned for her Afternoon Tea parties.

Once summer arrives, Tasha Tudor leaves her art table to spend the season tending her large, beautiful garden which surrounds her home.

ps She also has 2 great videos out: "Take Peace!" (one of my favorite Christmas videos ever!! You want comfy-cozy Christmas? Get this one! There's a corresponding book called, "Forever Christmas". Also, "Take Joy!" This one is basically how she lives her life.

Tasha Tudor is one of my favorite author/illustrators! I have a few of her books and sometimes get others out of the library. I also bought her cookbook for my mom.

Thank you for all the info. about her! I tried to do a web search on her a few years ago and came up empty. I will be checking out everything you wrote about soon!

I highly recommend Tasha Tudor's books for both you and your children. If you are looking to relax, open up one of her books and linger over her watercolor illustrations.

Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing, that is very interesting and inspiring.

Her art is beautiful! I love the prints.

I may have to get a book for my daughter.

I've got a few of her children's books; I could get lost in her artwork. I also love the biographies, (I think I've got all the titles right) "Tasha Tudor's Heirloom Crafts", "The Art of Tasha Tudor", and I think the other one is called,"The World of Tasha Tudor".

What's so amazing about her is how hard she works living the simple life! Doing everything by hand, especially at her age, can't be easy, but she considers this simple. And although she "never believes in hurry", how she can get so much done without hurrying is unbelievable.
