We bought 6 chickens yesterday for $1 each and we're going to raise them for their eggs organically, though I'm the only one that can eat them...my daughter is severely allergic to eggs. They are so cute, they grew overnight. We are growing a 100% organic garden and so hopefully next year we'll have the eggs.

My daughter absolutely loves them as do I. Anyone else raising chickens for organic eggs?

We don't have room for chickens. If we ever move to the country, like we really really want, we would. I do get our eggs from a local farmer, though!

I have been raising chicks for the last seven weeks. They were tiny and cute and now they are already sooooo big. I need to update my pictures of my coop. It has turned out soooooo nice. Dh has put alot of work into it.

I just bought a dozen eggs off a neighbor last week and they are so good. Fresh tasting to me!!!

I can't wait til my ladies start laying.

Here is a great website about everything chickens.....BackYardChickens Forum
Take care,
Jodie

Best of luck and they are cute. I wished we lived on a farm because I would raise some chickens as well!

We're about 15 minutes outside of Detroit in the suburbs in a house with a yard connected to other yards. But apparently alot of people are raising chickens in urban areas because the local feed store just two miles away wasn't surprised when I said we were getting chickens and did he have the starter feed. They are looking like chickens today and not little birds but minature chickens today. I am so excited about having them. I can't wait to build a coop for them and have their area all set up. Jodie, I love the backyard chicken site. Its my favorite. Please post the pics of your chickens. By the way...all these cute pics of these beautiful kids!!!

Oh, how CUTE!!!

We're in the 'burbs of a big city as well. I don't know if we'd have the room, but it would be fun and a good lesson in responsibility for our kids.

How big of a coop are you planning on building?

We got 4 chickens in february and 2 more in april and I absolutely love having them. They are the easiest to take care of pets I ever owned and are just so much fun to watch. They should start laying eggs soon, I can't wait!
