Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database - Special Report

I'm researching a bit more on sunscreen this morning and this is what I've come up with so far. An interesting link -- I've used them before for makeup and was pleased when I noticed they had a whole section devoted to sunscreen.

What I was not so pleased about was how my suncreen rates. Neutrogena Body Mist Sunblock got a score of 7 (not good) and also animal tests.

One of the interesting / depressing points from this article is that 85% of the 993 suncare products "offers inadequate protection from the sun, or contains ingredients with significant safety concerns."

It isn't all bad news -- there are products that are recommended. But this is just one site and I will continue on with my education of sunscreen.

Just my luck - I bought 6 bottles of the Banana Boat 30 (I need to get the bottle and make sure its exactly whats on the list though) and its not looking good. Going to have to keep an eye on this thread, please keep me updated if you find more info. :-( Funny thing is Ive never heard of anything on the first 6 pages or so on the list.

Hmmm... I think this is another case where I will just keep doing what I have always been doing (using the cheapest sunscreen) and living oblivious to all the "scientific" findings. So far it has worked for us. I am just of the opinion that almost everything is dangerous anymore, so I pick and choose my battles.

I just ordered some California Baby for us. I'm taking back the Coppertone I just bought a week ago for a refund. Ds Water Babies sunscreen had a even worse rating (8) than my adult Coppertone did. Maybe it is all hype, but after having cancer myself, I am pretty proactive on these kinds of things.

Thanks for the info. I haven't bought any sunscreen as of yet. I will keep this list in my mind when I go buy some.

mine didn't do so good. I agree with the previous posters that everything is dangerous nowadays and I won't worry about it.

I bought Aveeno because it rated well last year. It was a different study. I just don't know what to do.
