I think it is. Though I was just reading the other day of a couple, remodeling their home with green ideas, were WAY off budget with their green ideas and one of them designed homes for a living. I don't remember the details but where they budgeted like $80,000 for the project, was actually beginning to look more like $150,000 and they weren't even done yet!

On one of those Flip this House shows on TLC, they had a couple doing a green remodel in CA. It was very expensive for the recycled tile. It was like $5 a square foot compared to 1.17 a square foot. And there were a few other things they decided to just use new items. I think the only thing they found reasonable was recycled cabinets.

There are some new solar panels that are better than the ones currently on the market. They are going to be released in the next few years and will make solar power/panels affordable to everyone. DH is certified to install solar panels and says the average cost is 10,000 for the system and install. It amazes me that to save energy you need a money tree in your yard.

Hopefully, in the next few years green living for your home will become affordable.

Im not sure if you can do both. I try to be "green" when I can but the budget comes first! Though, alot of green ideas do save money in the long run.

I don't think it is very feasible right now, but hopefully as more people start to make the change the cost of things will come down. It costs more to build a home with green features vs. regular, green household items cost more, organic food cost more, etc. I agree with JVincent budget comes first in my household.
