queenboxtop, I think that they would grow. We are in central FL. I know that you can also put them in a bigger pot and bring it inside for weather under 40 degrees.

avocados are wonderful countrykasie! :-)

My kids LOVE to grow avocado trees. WE have yet to have one that would produce fruit though. That would be really cool.

Thanks for the link!

I tried this a few years ago, but my pit never sprouted.

I want to try it again and I'm sure the kids would want to give it a try. We love avocadoes!

I could be wrong, but avocado trees are either male or female, and I think the ratio is one female tree for every 10 male trees, or vice versa. For pollination purposes.

you are right, the link does state that you should plant multiple trees to get the best bet for producing fruit! :-)

Hi to all! I stumbled across mommysavers while searching for more info. on growing avocado trees here in Austin, TX. About 2 years ago, I stuck the seed (pit) in a pot just for grins. I now have a 10 foot avocado tree, no fruit. I put it in my greenhouse in the winter and on the southeast side of the house when outside. If anyone has helpful info., I'd love to hear it.
