My DH and I decided to start using cloth diapers for our new son. Can anyone give me some advice on the brands they use? I like G diapers and I looked up some others, but Im just not too sure... TIA!

*bump*

My DH and I are also looking into this cloth diapers for our second. We just found out, so we have a few months to plan. I have a friend who is also considering cloth diapers.

1. Do you use your own washing maching/hand wash/diaper cleaning services?

2. Any brands that last through multiple stages (i.e. birth to 1 or beyond)

3. What brands are your favorite?

4. What brands to avoid?

I know I am out dated on this, but my take on it is that the plain old prefolds and rubber pants are cheapest and last the longest. All these fancy cloth diapers have added to the expense and made cloth diapering much more complicated when it should be easy!!! I never had a problem with diaper pins or anything with my children. Plus you buy them once and they last until your child is potty trained!!!

My advice is outdated too! With ds (10 years ago) we used the prefolds pins and plastic pants. With dd (9 years ago) we switched to the one piece.

All I can say is that it is way easier than we thought it would be. I hear that from a lot of people who've tried it. Especially with a baby in the house. I simply found it easier to toss in a load at the end of every night then to travel to the grocery store more than I had too. For wipes we cut up receiving blankets. The flannel was so nice and soft on their little bottoms.

I use cloth (well did and will again here with this baby)
I used a diaper cover (a velcro one ) and would lay the prefold in the cover and put it on like a disp. I also have teh AIO ones but do prefer the prefolds and a cover I also get the fleece covers for night they work really well.

This is the fleece ones (tho Im not nec saying this site but its what I can find quick)
Bummis Polar Fleece Bummi Polar Fleece | Comfy Bummy Diapers
and here is the daily ones I use
Bummis Super Whisper Wrap | Comfy Bummy Diapers

I have also used the plastic pants but when they were really messy ones I found it easier to use the covers from above.

good luck

Hmmm. I was thinking about the all in one cloth diapers. Now I dont know. I have a couple of bags of regular diapers that I got for his birth so I have a couple more weeks to think about which is the way to go. I think I will buy a couple different kinds and see how they work for us. I like the idea of the G diapers with the flushable/throw away/compost inserts.

I use Fuzzi Bunz pocket diapers and love them. I have a few bumGenius AIO and like them too but they take forever to dry. I didn't care for prefolds but I know they are popular with many moms. My advice is to try many different ones before you decide what you like. Only get a couple of each one you want to try. Better yet, buy used on Diaper Swappers - Cloth Diaper & Parenting Community then sell what you don't like. There are many moms who go completely crazy with their diaper "addiction" and spend upwards of $30 on one diaper. It doesn't have to be like that though. I bought most of my diapers used and when they don't fit anymore I sell them to fund the new ones.

Btw, cloth diapers have been discussed many times here before. Do a search and I know you'll be able to find tons of info. Good luck!

Check out Diaper Swappers - Cloth Diaper & Parenting Community !

It is a wealth of information and good resources. The FSOT (for sale or trade) section is great and I have sampled many diapers from there.

I have been cloth diapering for almost 3 years now and would never go back. If you have any questions...let me know!
