DH gets good quality, expensive shoes (bought on sale at comparatively good prices), but keeps them for a long time.

He just went to get two pair resoled. Something I used to do all the time. We used to spend maybe $15.

They quoted him.....$45 a pair for resoles! Another shop in the area was only 5 cents cheaper! I understand prices going up, but there's a difference between having to raise prices and gouging.

Wow!
Its just better to buy a new pair IMO.
Prices ARE foinf up on everything. My mom and I went to Target today and wanted a midday snack. We would always get the $1 deal (popcorn&soda) and the lady told us it wasn't going on anymore. Now we need to pay a whooping $2.16 for both things! Ahhaa

That's crazy! My dad always buys red wing workboots and gets them resoled. I hope it doesn't go up that much around here. My parents have a tough time making ends meet.

Ugh, that's steep. My cousin recenly had a pair of her backless shoes repaired from her dog chewing on them and they cost more to fix than they did new. She still paid to have them repaired saying that 'They are too cute and comfortable to trash' Well if it were me, they would have hit the trash regardless after what that repair would have cost me.

Ugh. And I was thinking about getting a pair done, because to me $110 is a heck of an expensive shoe. I think part of the problem is that there are very few of these businesses remaining in today's disposable society so less competition equals no need to keep prices competititve.

YIKES that is a steep price to resole shoes, however if the upper is still in great condition sometimes there is no beating a nice comfy pair of shoes.

This is such a shame. People will have to throw out their shoes more. This will lead to more waste and cheaper, lower quality shoes in the first place!
I was always told to get a good pair of shoes and a good bed. If you're not in one you're in the other!

My DH wears dress shoes to work, and he likes a particular high-quality brand because he says they're most comfortable. I usually find them on sale at the outlets. They retail for over $100 a pair.

He took a pair in for re-soles/heels and paid $60 for them! I just about choked. They came back looking brand new though. He'll get a lot more use out of them, so it's like a small investment. I figure I couldn't have purchased a brand new pair for $60. Since he doesn't have to buy tools, equipment, etc. for his job, I guess good shoes are not too much to ask
