The only thing I have in my car for emergencies is jumper cables. Bad, I know. My husband's car has all the camping gear in the trunk, so if we were ever stranded in that car, we would be good to go, lol.
The FAA recomends this for your emergency car kit:
Battery powered radio and extra batteries
Flashlight and extra batteries
Blanket
Booster cables
Fire extinguisher (5 lb., A-B-C type)
First aid kit and manual
Bottled water and non-perishable high energy foods, such as granola bars, raisins and peanut butter.
Maps
Shovel
Tire repair kit and pump
Flares
What do you have in your car for emergencies?

There's a plastic box in the back of the car with a red cross on it, but I have no idea what's in it.

I also have a backpack w/coloring books, lollipops, sunblock, hand sanitizer, books, crayons, extra seasonal set of clothes and jacket for each child.
I also have a swiss army knife in the glove box and pepper spray.
Good thing I have a Suburban!

We have a small toolbox in each car! With a complete set of tools, needed to fix anything.
In the older cars, dh keeps a extra set of hoses.
In the winter I keep a blanket in mine.

I have been told, and I don't know if this is true, but that a lit candle will help keep a car warm in cold weather. But I've never experienced this myself.

I have latex gloves, bandages, bandaids, antiseptic ointment.
In the winter months I have extra blankets, change of clothes, water and snacks, shovel, and a flashlight.

Wow. That's an impressive list. We have a small first aid kit w/ the basics, blanket, Jumper cables, work gloves, pressure gauge, and basic tools in each car. I also keep matches and extra tampons in the cars! My car has hand sanitizer in it.
I just put together an emergency kit for the house. I got it in my head that I wanted to have stuff incase of a tornado or if something bad happened. So now I have a back pack w/ all kinds of stuff:
-light sticks
-matches
-thermoblanket
-matches
-coloring pages and crayons
-whistles
-compas
-knife
-work gloves
-tampons, pads
-diapers
-wipes
-toilet paper
-ponchos
-clean undies
-Extra Bible
-crank flashlight/radio/cell charge
-masks
-small bag of cat food.
-granola bars
-water jugs
I forget all what else. I got paraniod for a couple of weeks and put stuff together. My husband thought I was a bit crazy, but humored me (but wouldn't let me buy the emergency preparedness kit I wanted--LOL!)
