I am about 3/4 of the way through a book by Sylvia Brown - Secret Societies. it talked about Opus Dei and a lot of other groups. But she also talks about Jesus and how he didnt die and he survived and he married Mary Magdalene and travelled the world and settled and South France and even had kids! She has many experts from the Gospels showing examples of him being crusified by Pilot, but it was show and he wasnt killed, he was drugged and made to look like he died, then he was taken down and placed in a tomb, when it was normal to bury in the ground and then his body was removed, here Christians believe he left Earth and went to Heaven, but the soul would go right? not the physical body? so his followers moved him and helped him recover and then he left the country after giving instructions to his diciples. She talks about how the Early church didnt want this story told, so some gospels were omittied from the New Testement and, Christ was portrayed as what we think of him now, rather than a normal human being with a big job from God.

I know there are a lot of religious ladies on this site, and I would like to know if you beleive in this, also Calimari our resident Aethist, do you beleive this?

I think I believe it, In Islam we believe Jesus was a prophet, he was sent down by God and he was here to create unity and show people the right way. We just done beleive he was the "Son of God", or in the "trinity"

I would love to know what you ladies think......

I have not read the book, but I've read similar reports. The additional gospels you are referring to are the "gnostic" gospels, I believe. At some point in the early church, leaders made a determination as to what was "in" and what was "out". Those gospels are the "out" stack and most fervent christians will deny their authenticity. There is much debate among scholars on the matter. I've been meaning to read up a bit, but there have been some really hot vampire novels at my library that have drawn my interest instead.

I think that the gnostic gospels have as much weight as the rest of them, and I don't think that the judgement of men in the early years of the church should be what determines what is or is not an article of faith. That said, since the gospels were written well after Jesus' death, and most well after the lifespan of the apostles, they are not first hand accounts or eyewitness accounts, but hearsay. The 4 do not even match each other.

I believe Jesus was a man with a message. I have no opinion as to whether or not he truly believed himself to be the son of god, or if that is something that followers pegged on him. I think he had a good message to share. I don't believe in prophets, I don't believe Jesus is the son of God or that he is God. Just a good man who probably did live, with a good message overall. For a minute there I was starting to sound like the lyrics to John Lennon's song "God". LOL

You said "I think I believe it..." It sounds like you're very unsure of yourself. Teachers and psychics can only lead you to their own beliefs and understanding. I don't know where Sylvia Brown got her sources, but they clearly contradict the Bible. If you want to know who Jesus is, I suggest that you learn for yourself and not through psychics or atheists. Just read one of the gospels like John or Mark. Pray for your own insight and understanding. Ask God to show you His Truth and to confirm it to you. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, but by me." Anyone who teaches otherwise, is not teaching all of Jesus. They just try to make him fit into their own philosophies. He said he is the Son of God. Either he is or he isn't. It's that simple.

I do know who Jesus is, he is mentioned in my holy book, I did religious education in High School, went on to take Theology in College...so I know who he is, I have read the bible many times and studied the text, compared and contrasted it too.

I have actually read that book by Sylvia Brown and some of the items mentioned are interesting. I myself am a Christian believer, some areas of the book I don't care to cross into. I think everybody has to make up their own mind on what they believe and what they need to believe in.
Religion for the world is a very complexed area and it is interesting to hear how each region acts on it.

I notice you have only 5 posts, so you would not be aware that the original poster is muslim. Jesus is a prophet in her faith, and not the son of god. Just FYI.

have you read any of the literature on the topic? Those other gospels DO exist. They are not made up.

The main thing I was speaking of that is garbage is that Jesus lived in the south of France and had children!!!?? And whatever else that went along w/ that...I don't even care to go back and read it again b/c it is so ridiculously absurd to me.

If you have a bible handy please turn to Matthew 27 and 28. These chapters explain what happened to Jesus and his body. As far as Sylvia Brown is concerned I feel she is highly confused. I do beleive he was raised from the dead. His body was embalmed and back then when they embalmed a body it was usually done with about 80lbs of cloth and spices. Also in Matthew 27:62-66 the tomb was sealed and guards were placed outside the tomb to prevent his body from being taken so the disciples could not have stolen the body. I HTH!
