Our month of Ramadan is starting Saturday/sunday. we follow the Lunar calendar so it moved each year. In this month it is believed that our prophet was sent the holy book the Koran, through an angel called Gabriel (yep, the same one).

In this month we fast everyday from sunrise to sunset. SO i have to eat a meal at 5.30am and not eat or drink anything till 7pm. It will get shorter each day since each day gets shorter.

Each evening we have special prayers, we try to read the whole Koran within this month and be as nice as possible to everybody. The meaning behind the fasting is that we can then appreciate what God has given us when we are not fasting. We can see how the poor live who dont get enough to eat.

Just wanted to share.

Thank you!!

I was in Bahrain when it was Ramadan. I remember being told, by the military folks, to not eat opennly infront of the locals. Meaning: we were not to walk around town eating our lunch in plain view, out of respect

Thank you Rakshanda for sharing

Happy Fasting!

Baha'is do our Fasting in March right before the Spring Equinox. It is a very spiritual and very difficult experience. Hope it goes well for you.

Happy Ramadan! (Is that an appropriate thing to wish you?)

Rakshanda… I know that during Lenten fasting, certain accommodations are made to the rule for the very young and very old, and for those with health concerns where fasting may be impractical or even dangerous. Is there any like rule in Islamic observance?

Is there a time where you are to fast for 24 hours then eat a meal and fast another 24 hours? I will be doing a one day (24 hour) fast on Monday for Yom Kippur.

Also, what is the name of your holiday in December? I am drawing a blank.

thanks

Rakshanda -

First, a blessed and peaceful Ramadan to you.

Second, my brother is living and working in Kuwait and has converted to Islam (is that correct wording) and is experiencing Ramadan.

Yes, you are excused if you are too old, too young, too sick, breaastfeeding or pregnant and even when you have a period.

I have not done that kind of fast, ours is only sunset to sunrise. I never knew there was fasticng in Judaism. In december will be the pilgramige and Eid. but it is on the Lunar year, so it moves each year, there is no set holiday in december.
