Thank you so much! I really do appreciate it.
My neurologist thinks I may have Multiple Sclerosis.
I've had MRIs, CT scans, a spinal tap, nerve conduction tests, evoked potential tests (where they repeatedly shock you), vision field tests and numerous blood tests and office neurological exams.
So far, we have found other causes for my symptoms. I've had physical therapy for both my back and dizziness and will be going to therapy for TMJ. I've also had extensive sinus surgery last year.
I still have issues that could or could not be Multiple Sclerosis. The only test that is pointing in that direction is an abnormal brain MRI (2 nonspecific, but possible MS spots found). My PT person feels that my leg/back/hip issues are not caused by MS, my neurologist thinks otherwise.
I will be repeating my brain MRI shortly. I pray that no new lesions are found.
These tests have been going on since October 2006. I still have no definite answers on the MS (it is a "diagnosis via exclusion"). It has been one long year of mental, physical and financial frustration.
From the financial perspective, MS is a very expensive disease. The drugs to try and slow it down run about $20,000 a year. Fortunately, I am blessed to have insurance that will cover most of it. I will possibly only have to pay $35 every 3 months. This doesn't include the drugs to manage side effects.
Sorry, for being so long-winded. This has been overtaking my whole life and sometimes, I just need to vent a bit...
Take care!
