Please excuse my ignorance on this, but I'm confused....

The 700 club is on tv while I was sitting here on the computer. The host said, "God came down and became a man, Jesus."

I always thought God was God, and Jesus was his son, "the son of God."

Is he the son of or is he God himself????

My kids have also been asking me a question I don't really know how to answer....

"Did God make himself?" We have been discussing the fact that he made everything.....

Tough question!
Well, God sent Jesus to earth to do his work, he made him in an image of himself. Now it depends how you interpret that. He made Jesus to look like him, or he gave Jesus the personality and qualities that God has?
God sent a part of him down in Jesus, so you could say that Jesus was God....I think some Christians view it like that.
In Islam we believe Jesus was a prophet sent down by God to do Gods work and not a "son".

What that is referring to is the Holy Trinity. There is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Basically, God is the 3 in 1 I know its confusing!! God the Father, sent God the Son (Jesus) to earth to pay the price for our sins.

Someone else can probaly explain it better, but that's it in a nutshell. Jesus is a part of God.

HTH a bit

I think Pandi explained it quite well. I guess you could maybe think of it like this:

Think about those nesting cup toys. All together they make up one cup but yet there are several distinct cups that are part of the whole.

Or maybe think of it as a triangle--a triangle has three separate points, but together they make up one shape. You can't have a triangle without all three points.

That's how it is with God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Spirit (holy spirit).

I hope that makes sense.

It's hard to think about. At some point you have to accept things on faith. And it's hard to wrap your mind around the Trinity, so I do the best I can to understand and have faith in the rest!

Yes, pandi explained it very well. Jesus is part of God who is part of the Holy Spirit. They are three in one in the Trinity.

It also might help to compare the trinity to an egg - there is a yolk, a white, and a shell - three distinct parts but together they make an egg - just as God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are three distinct parts but together they are one God.

Thanks Stephpook. I knew there was a good analogy out there. I learned that in Sunday school, but I was coming up blank this morning
