Someone compliments you? How do you take compliments and how do you feel after them?

I know a girl that has a low self image even after losing weight. She sees herself a bad way and when I complimented her on her weight loss she seemed incredulous. It surprised me to see how some people don't like compliments, or that they're so used to not ever hearing them that they shy away from them. I love compliments and I always get an ego boost from them

i have a hard time taking compliments. some friends of mine talked to me about how i just need to accept and say thank you, cuz it makes the person giving the compliment feel bad if you reject it. i've really improved about it, though sometimes i am embarassed and hide my face if someone's complimenting me right in front of my manager or teacher....

I'm not very good at taking compliments. I need to get better about it. It frustrates my hubby.

I am learning to say thank you...and stop there....When DH compliments me I used to say "thank you, but don't you think ____ (insert whatever criticism you can think of for the compliment)."

Now I just smile and say thank you, and let myself feel good about whatever the compliment is

I have a hard time taking compliments, I always want to disprove them for some reason. I have been working on it and have gotten better at just saying "thank you" and not putting myself down right afterwards. Geez, why is it so hard for some of us?

I am getting better on this. I used to shy away from them - As a kid, I never got compliments, my mom had something critical to say about everything I wore or did, if she said anything at all. I started getting them as a teen (from other people), and never knew how to react, it made me so secretly happy to hear someone say something so nice about me!! But I never thought it was true, because I never heard them - only negative things. But I am over that now, and I think they are wonderful. I try to compliment everyone I can - even my mother, it is such a great feeling and you can help someone feel better by just saying something so simple!!

I don't seem to take compliments well, sometimes they make me uncomfortable. I rarely received any praise when I was growing up, so it didn't teach me well how to accept it.

Now, I will just smile, say thank you and move onto something else. And if someone goes on and on about how I look, instead of being happy with the compliment, I'm usually thinking "geez how bad did I look before?".

I love getting them. It used to be hard when I was younger, but I've worked thru that, so when they come, it makes my day!!!!
