I am non-denominational and, YES, I DO consider sex before marriage a sin. The Bible says so!

Do you think that someone who never finds a mate, maybe someone who has dated many people but never lucked into finding "the one" should live their entire lives celibate? Do you have a reason other than "the Bible says so"? Most people in the world do not follow that book as their religious text.

I am Catholic, I was raised to believe that sex before marriage was wrong. I waited, and I'm glad I did. What other people do is their business and i don't judge.

This is a conversation I don't like having. For a few reasons. For one, I do believe it is a sin, but I didn't wait for marriage. I didn't get it back then, I do now. So people probably consider me a hypocrite. I can't help now, what I did back then. If my husband died, I would not have sex again with someone I wasn't married to. I totally understand that not everyone uses the Bible as their moral compass. But the question is what do I believe. I feel I must take all the Bible or none of it. So I do believe it is a sin.
That said, what someone else does(besides my under 18 year old children) is none of my business.

I don't consider you a hypocrite. You just sound like someone who has grown and learned from their past. If you did one thing while espousing another, that would be hypocritical. Learning from your past and choosing to take a different path in the future is not hypocritical.

For me it would be a sin. I believe in the Bible and it's very clear on that subject.

Well said because I am in the same boat. I know exactly what you are saying and believe it is written and preached for a reason because I have reaped what I have sown (not talking about my beautiful children either because I feel they are a blessing) I had to deal with the negative effects of it in my life and I am glad that I am married now and let the past stay behind me.

My religion frowns on sex outside of marriage but I lived with my husband for a year before I would agree to marry him. We didn't sleep apart during that time! I think that as long as you are in a commited relationship and are a responsible adult then sex outside of marriage is ok.

My Religion describes marriage as " 2 people who pledge to love one another and support each other in all things"

So no I do not think sex before marriage is a sin.To me a promise is a promise is a promise....
