I've been reading Echhart Tolle's new book and he talks a lot about being in the moment and shutting down all the noise in your head. And I realize I am HORRIBLE at this! My brain never shuts down! I'm always thinking about something that happened or something that was said or something that I need to do or something that will happen. On and on and on.

This past week, I've attempted some of his tips. Some breathing exercises and just spending time, directly focuses, on what I was doing. I've done this specially with my children and just enjoyed the moments with being with them. Even with conversations with others, where I often find myself trying "too hard" and not enjoying myself (the joys of being an introvert).

It is amazing! I've really enjoyed it. Of course last night life was hectic and I was tired and it all went out the door! But the rest of the week has been great.

Does anyone have any experiences like this?

Yes! My mind is constantly going and talking and thinking! I, too, am reading the book and watching the New Earth series with Oprah and trying to implement the "staying in the moment" in my life. It's amazing how different you feel when you shut it all out and enjoy the moment. It's hard to describe the feeling.

Being aware of the talk in my head is kind of scary! I need to shut up!

It's so good to hear that I'm not alone!

I'm right there with you. I just got the book this week, and I'm right around page 100. My mind never stops...and it's affecting my sleep. I really need to incorporate some sort of practice in my life to stop all the madness! It's gotten so much worse since I had my son. It's good to know I'm not alone in this!!!

My brain is constantly going and I thought I was just being nerotic!
My mother recently read this book for her book club - I am going to borrow hers.

Oh, me too! That's why this book was so eye opening but I'm a work in progress and I am still working on the techniques of living in the moment and blocking out the other thoughts. I feel like I've been so much more patient and compassionate with others but I haven't been able to shut out the negative self talk (which I never say out loud) and the self doubt. What I would do to stop those!

I am the same way. I have tried not to do this by writing down things that pop in my head like things I have to do. Sometimes it works but not often.
