I'm just curious.

I know, in many families, that moms are the ones getting all the details together to celebrate -- birthdays, holidays, weddings. It just seems that it often falls on Mom to take care of those details that makes the day so special. And I know, come Mother's Day, when maybe Dad (or older kids) should pick up a little of the planning that sometimes it tends to fall flat.

In my house, I bought a tree yesterday and a couple of plants. And this morning we went out for brunch. The only thing my husband really had to do was get a card for me from the kids and have my daughter sign it ... he didn't do it. Or at least he hasn't given it to me yet and it is 12:15! I'm a bit disappointed, because you know I will get him a card on Father's Day from the kids, but otherwise I'm fine and I've had a nice day with him, the kids, and my brother's family. And if our weather clears up (which at this point I don't think it will) we're planning on a bike ride which will be nice.

So a good day overall - just no card. Though my 4 year old, after our brunch and not at her father's prompting told me, "Happy Mother's Day!" And currently I have this 10 month old pulling himself up on a chair grinning at me! You know ... that is way better than a card!

Any other thoughts on Mother's Day?

I understand completely. I do make all the plans, buy cards, and gifts etc. Today I was a lil disappointed too when my dh didn't plan a thing and no card. In a few days I'll have to hear my sis tell me all the stuff she got.But in all fairness I have a great dh that told me last night he'd give me the world if he could. I believe it. He has never griped about any purchase that I've made, if I was on the phone, or even if the house is a lil messy. He's always been there and has been my rock of support when I need it. On the otherhand my sis's dh always gripes about everything. I'll take everyday of my dh being who he is over just "special" days showering me with gifts. I think men in general really feel like actions speak louder than words spoken or even written down in cards. So I wouldn't feel too bad about it. It sounds like you've had a pretty good day. Then again I know where your coming from. *HUGS*

It use to be sorta that way here also, but now that our kids are older 9 and 16 yrs. old. They are actually getting into it and wanting to help and my DH will go with them or give them the money to go shopping. I use to have to remind them about getting cards, but it does get easier I think as they get older.

I don't expect a Hallmark holiday for Valentines, Mother's Day, whatever but that is just me. I HATE store bought cards. I think it is sweet to get a handmade card from your child. My husband helped my 5yo to make a card for me but could not find the supplies. It was with a pen and computer paper. It was the thought that counted. I didn't expect anything but I appreciated it. They also went out and got supplies for our project. I got a new portable SHOP VAC My hubby has been working himself to death at the office and then at home on the project. He planned to NOT work today but I told him I wanted the work finished. We didn't have heat and it is going to be in the 40s tomorrow. Now we have heat!! We're doing a cookout for the grandparents for mother/father's day combined in a couple weeks. I think we will continue that tradition next year. I don't care about Mother's Day but I do respect the needs of others.

The girls behaved relatively well today so I was happy!!

I hope this post didn't come across as complaining about the lack of card. Because, really I did have a nice day. I just kind of expected a card. It didn't ruin my day or anything. It was just a passing comment.

I didn't think you were complaining. I just think sometimes we (including me) set our expectations to high for the guys. My hubby does thoughtful things for me all the time, he just doesn't remember everything
