How do you ladies stay motivated to attend services every week? I want my boys to understand my beliefs but I feel as though the spiritual part of the service is often trumped by the for lack of a better word, haughtiness, of many of the congregants. I don't like to be made to fell "lesser" b/c I choose comfortable clothes, or b/c I wasn't raised in a church, etc.

So, how do you get around all the issues and focus on the spirituality?

Our church is very informal. Yes, we have some who are dressed to the nines, and then we have folks in jeans. We have just added a new sanctuary and our pastor is very down to earth and he wants everybody to feel comfortable, so he has not worn a tie very many times since we are in the new sanctuary. What's inside is so much more important than what you are wearing. Just be strong and know that what you have on is irrelevant! God looks at your heart! You are doing it for the right reasons, taking your kids and teaching them about God, just hold your head high and "do the right thing". I applaude you and encourage you to continue to go no matter what others think!!!!!! Show those boys what your made of!!!! LOL :D

I tell my kids that just as friends come to visit us during the week at our house, we need to go visit God at his house, too. It's hard to keep up a friendship with someone and get to know them when you never visit them.

If you feel uncomfortable at church, do you think you might need to switch churches? There's nothing wrong with "church shopping". When you find a place that feels comfortable for you, like coming home each week, you look forward to Sunday. How can others at church even tell that you weren't raised in a church, unless they ask? And dress is very personal... as long as you look neat and clean and presentable, it doesn't matter what you wear, at least that is my take on it. I doubt Jesus ever had more than one change of clothes, if that, but I bet he always looked clean and presentable going in to worship.
