Are you purchasing things to help your child with their special needs for Christmas? I'm having a hard time for DS. We think he'd really be great with the Lego Mindstorm Robot, but I'm sorry, that thing is $250! no go

We are hoping to get him a bike, which he is so not interested in. He's had 2 before that just sat, so this will be for his current age and size. He's 8, and not yet quite coordinated, but I think we really need to do it and encourage him; especially since his sister is getting one, a small one. He just now started using his Razor scooter he's had for a couple of years and is so proud!

He's asked for a piano. Ain't gonna happen. However, then he asked for a keyboard (then changed his mind - he want's a piano - well, me too!). What is good is that I bought him one through Sharper Image's outlet quite a few years ago, and because he had others from Grandma and us, he never saw this.

He wants more Webkinz. He has so many stuffed animals, that are so important to him, yet some languish alone.

I think he needs more creative, hands on, independent outlets.

I usually try to include things that would be helpful to my son. I also encourage relatives to exclude certain items - please, one year someone got him a POGO stick....LOL Ummmm....were they kidding?

This year my dad was at a bike shop and saw a giant 3-wheel bike. It was used, but my dad bought it and fixed it up, so now my big guy will have a bike he might actually be able to ride!

When he was little I bought him those tunnels you crawl through, a kitchen center to practice standing at while he played, sensory toys were a big thing too.

As they get older, it gets harder though! LOL

Yes, it DOES get harder!! How old was your son when he got the bike - was it like one of those larger Big Wheels that goes by a different name?

You know, I have no idea what it's called! It basically looks like a giant tricycle. The seat is full, also, so his whole rear end will be supported. And the seat has a little back to it. I wish I had a picture, An adult could even sit on it. My ds is 10, btw.

My dad somehow attached an old pair (but they still fit) pair of ds's shoes to the pedals so that ds's feet will basically be "stuck" to the pedals. He's getting this for christmas and I think he will like it. You never know at this age though.

Pretty much. I got her some talking dolls to encourage her to repeat words and songs. Also some art supplies, a puzzle, a play tool set and a doll that you can change diapers and feed her so dd can practice her fine motor skills.
